We are pleased to announce the publication of a NEW 5th edition of MULTIPLE-CHOICE AND FREE-RESPONSE
QUESTIONS IN PREPARATION FOR THE AP BIOLOGY EXAMINATION.
The new 5th edition Multiple-Choice & Free-Response Questions in Preparation for the AP Biology
Examination contains 460 new multiple-choice questions and 20 new free-response questions reflecting the
most current syllabus in AP Biology, as well as review material organized by themes to assist in review of the
many concepts addressed in AP Biology. The addition of the review material is new to the 5th edition.
The book consists of three parts. The first part of the book contains an introduction for students with
suggestions for organizing study and review throughout the year. The second section, new to the 5th edition,
consists of review material for each of the eight themes represented by 20 multiple-choice questions in each
theme—a total of 160 multiple-choice questions and 8 theme-based free-response questions. These themes are
particularly important because they make meaningful connections between topics and concepts throughout AP
Biology. For each theme, pertinent content area material is provided, helping the students to review for the AP
examination, as well as to identify topics that may be addressed for each theme. The third part of the book
consists of 3 sample exams each containing 100 multiple-choice questions and 4 free-response questions
totaling 300 multiple-choice questions and 12 free-response questions. For each set of questions, a grid is
provided for your students to analyze their strengths and weaknesses in each theme and topic area where a
student may wish to review in more depth. In addition, there are many questions throughout the book that
address the required laboratory activities.
Student answer keys for all multiple-choice questions are separately packaged. Each class order is
accompanied by a FREE Teacher’s Manual, which contains explanations to the correct choices for all 460
multiple-choice questions and rubrics for the 20 free-response questions. The Teacher’s Manual also contains
information identifying which of the labs have been recently addressed on the AP Biology exam to assist you
in your preparation.
The authors of the 5th edition are Jennifer Pfannerstill and Glenn Hartman. Jennifer is an AP Biology
teacher at Tomohawk High School in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. She has been a Reader and Table Leader at the
AP Biology reading. Glenn is an AP Biology teacher at Archmere Academy in Claymont, Delaware and has
also served as AP Reader.
The 5th edition contains all new questions, with no duplication from past editions, that are as demanding
as students will find on the actual AP Biology Examination. Why not ensure your students of the most
comprehensive and challenging exposure to the Advanced Placement format?
The use of MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS IN PREPARATION FOR THE AP BIOLOGY EXAMINATION will enable your students to be better prepared for the multiple-choice section of the AP Biology Examination.
