We are pleased to announce the publication of a new 6th edition of MULTIPLE-CHOICE AND
FREE-RESPONSE QUESTIONS IN PREPARATION FOR THE AP BIOLOGY EXAMINATION.
The new 6th edition has been completely modified and updated to reflect the new AP Biology
curriculum that is in effect for the current school year. All 309 multiple-choice and 39 free-response
questions in this book are entirely new, as well as a total of 18 grid-in mathematical questions, which is a
new question format tested on the exam.
The book consists of three parts. The first part of the book contains an introduction for students with
suggestions for organizing study and review throughout the year. It contains the four Big Ideas of biology
and enunciates the science skills that students are expected to have: a strong foundation in biology, as well
as experimental, scientific, mathematical and analytic skills. It also contains a description of the newly
revised AP Biology Exam.
The second part of the book consists of four chapters for each of the four Big Ideas. Each Big Idea is
broken down into sections of review material and ends with 30 multiple-choice and 2-5 free-response
practice questions at the end of each chapter. The newly designed questions will demand some biological
knowledge, data analysis or science practice in each question.
The third part of the book consists of 3 sample exams simulating the newly designed College Board
Advanced Placement Biology Examination with 63 multiple-choice questions, 6 grid-in numerical
questions, 2 long free-response questions and 6 short free-response questions.
Student Answer Keys for all multiple-choice questions are separately packaged. Each class order is
accompanied by a FREE Teacher’s Manual, which contains explanations to the correct choices for all 309
multiple-choice questions, 18 grid-in mathematical questions, and rubrics for all 39 free-response
questions (both long and short).
The 6th edition contains all new questions, with no duplication from past editions. The questions are
as demanding as students will find on the actual AP Biology Examination. Why not give your students the
edge?
The authors of the 6th edition are Glenn Hartmann and Jennifer Pfannerstill. Glenn Hartman has been
teaching AP Biology at Archmere Academy in Claymont, DE since 1999, where he also serves as the
Science Department Chair. He has also been an AP Biology Reader for the College Board since 2004.
Jennifer Pfannerstill has been teaching AP Biology at Tomahawk High School since 1995. She has been
an AP Biology Reader since 1998 and has served in various leadership roles at the Reading. She has also
worked for Educational Testing Service as an outside item writer. [Both authors have had a lot of exposure
with the new curriculum, new lab program, and new exam questions and format.]
